March 21, 2009 – Inaugural Golf Day The inaugural golf day for Kampuchea House was held on Saturday 21st March at the beautiful 9 hole Frankston Golf Club known as “Little Frankston” with over 70 people in attendance. The golfers were greeted with freshly brewed coffee and tea and delicious slices donated by The Middle Bar and Cafe. Prior to teeing off all players were presented with a Hermon & Hermon shopping bag containing an ANZ golf ball and tees, Cool Ridge water, Kampuchea House Cap and information brochure. Eileen Crewes and Libby McCann commenced teeing off the players at 9.00am with details of the various competitions being held over the day. Everyone really got into the spirit of the day and the players battled the excessive heat and winds in the afternoon. Our congratulations to the players for continuing on in the elements, a sign of a true golfer! After completing the first 9 holes a welcome break and a delicious buffet luncheon was provided by Tommy Collins Events with beverages from Casella Wines and Schweppes. At commencement of the second 9 holes, Matt Cleverdon, the pro from Kingston Heath Golf Club kindly provided his expert golfing tuition on the first tee. For a donation to Kampuchea House he would hit your shot on the straightest driving hole. Committee members Vanessa Sherd and Jen Connelly sold raffle tickets on the 3rd and 9th Holes with great prizes being a round of golf for 4 at Kingston Heath Golf Club and 2 tickets to attend the wonderful show of “Wicked” and the book signed by the cast, kindly donated by ANZ Bank. The wonderful raffle prize kindly donated by Bib Stillwell BMW was to play in the Qualifying Round for the BMW International at The National Golf Club in April plus a fabulous BMW golf pack and Precept Ladies golf bag. The ladies from Riversdale Golf Club stole the show winning with a stunning 50 stableford points. Our congratulations to Tini McKimm and Fran Fox who eagerly accepted the Kampuchea House Golf Cup. Liz Cholaj not only won the Ladies Straightest drive but also the longest drive..well done Liz! The Men's Straightest drive with a magnificent shot was Simon Yudelevich and the Longest drive was by David Perkins. We would like to thank everyone who played and attended on the day and also those who donated funds. Our sincere thanks to all our sponsors apart from those already mentioned we would like to thank Gary Lisbon of Golf Select for his fabulous books and calendars, Guala Closures, Kingston Heath Golf Club, ANZ Bank and Jamie Sadock Clothing. With your wonderful support for Kampuchea House we raised $5,500. The funds raised from this successful golf day will continue to provide sustainability for the children. |
